"Rich man's and poor man's fish market. This one was the latter."

There used to be two fish markets in Bruges. The Vismarkt was the rich people market and the Huidenvettersplein (Tanners Square) served the poor. In the square's center, two posts were used for the scales weighting the fish. The big, dominating building used to be the guildhall of the tanners who made leather.
