"Historic fortified city next to a magnificent castle & expansive lower city"

Set on an inspiring hill, Carcassonne is a historic city with a magnificent castle, the fortified Cité de Carcassonne, as well as a newer city on its outskirts, the expansive lower city ville basse.

The whole setting appears to be coming out of a fairytale with its drawbridges, towers and cobbled streets.

There are plenty of shops and places to sit in and out of the walled city, flooded of course with thousands of tourists.
