Barcelona's important square is set at a junction of a few major roads and squares, leading towards the Palau Nacional through Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristin (the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalonia).
An impressive fountain right in the middle of the roundabout was designed by Gaudí's collaborator, Josep Maria Jujol, along with Miquel Blay, the statue's sculptor. Two huge 47m Venetian Towers appear to be gating the area, which is often used for trade fairs (before the 2013 venue was built). The area also houses Fira de Barcelona, Parc de Joan Miró, and the famous bullring, Arenas de Barcelona, now a shopping center.
There isn't really much to do at Placa d’Espanya, other than walk and enjoy a good weather day.
