Although the structure was recently built in the 19^th century, there used to be a 13^th century parish church in its place. The Cathedral of the Grimaldis is used for Royal ceremonies, including marriages and funerals.

A lot of tourists come to visit the Grace Kelly place of burial even though there are a few other special characteristics in this church, including its Altar and the Episcopal throne.
